I'm sorry to hear that the game was a big disappointment for you, but I have a totally opposite view having played the game over and over many times now. For me, I think Dark souls is by far the best of all games in 20 years, in terms of RPG style-based. There are probably flaws in the game here and there but the this game is somewhat a revolution I'd say.
However, I do agree this game lacks in its tutorial to teach new players on how to do stuff, but games now'a days don't need to put out too much tutorials, true gamers will eventually spend the time to pick the game up and learn from it. The best part about the game that sets it apart from many games is its combat system. Parrying, blocking, and timing. Games that require a player to carefully analyze before attacking are harder and more enjoyable than games that allow players to span attacks without penalty. The game's huge and beautiful environment, characters, storyline, secret places, are just fantastic.
If there is a Dark Souls 3 coming... (i would hope so), I would strongly suggest the developers to look at the Monster Hunter game series on the PSP. If they can somehow include that system into its gameplay, the game will be beyond AWESOME.
Things I would suggest for a future Dark Souls release (incorporating similar ideas to Monster Hunter) :
1. Allow players to carve off monsters parts with a chance of receiving random bad, good, items
2. crafting armors from enemies carved parts, not every enemy is carvable,
3. rather than finding an entire armor set on a body, spread out the armor parts around the world, make users do quest or find armor pieces, yet make users level up crafting to get the best armor if not be, have crafting an armor or weapon have a percentage of success, so crafting can fail and player will lose all items used for the craft :P
5. When wearing an entire armor set that match, players should get a bonus, versus mixing armor sets.
Lastly, my last suggestion: I'm not sure how to exactly explain this, but this would make Dark Souls even harder and maybe win the hearts of all true gamers!!!
Just because a player sees an enemy, doesn't mean they have to kill it, in fact they shouldn't be able to kill every enemy they see, Some enemy are just not kill-able until maybe the 2nd or 3rd run through of the game. Every enemy should be super hard that players should have 2nd thoughts before engaging. Most of the time, a player should avoid combat unless it is wise to do so because enemies are that hard. By that I mean, players should be well skilled and equipped before engaging. Players can not win a battle just by randomly attacking or swinging a weapon, maybe 1 or two random attack may slide through but more than that will be major consequences and a draw back for the player in battles. Every attack, every move will count and will require careful execution to win any battle, even against level 1 enemies at the start of the game. This would make dark souls even purer in its gameplay.
But yeah, I think adding this crafting and carving system into the game would rock the game. If I ever get a chance to work with the developers on this game, this would be my suggestion in guiding the game to a new revolution.
