posting game play on YouTube

Post by bfoxx121 » Thu Nov 24, 2011 2:03 am

I'm in the need to know if it is OK to have an instructional video for Sniper Elite,I have several areas that I play that is not covered in any instruction books or the game itself, mostly in the Bormann section...I have finished playing the entire game several times,so I have invented my own game play in the game by finding areas that are not programmed or the characters(Germans) can't follow what I'm doing because I'm not following the game plan any longer,so they can do what they are programmed to do but not when it comes time to find me,so the normal game play is about 8mins for the Bormann section, now it can take as long as 2 hrs...etc etc,so my question is,I have had request to see my game play because I'm able to do this and more in the game, but mostly the Bormann section,so is it breaking any rules of copyright to up-load my game playing onto YouTube? There are 1,000s already posted, nothing like what I do,but it takes hrs of editing and filming,I don't want to do all this work only to have it removed...thanks,I give all credits etc to NAMCO & REBELLION on the videos,I don't change anything,it is just recording me playing the game that is out of print etc etc..Thanks,please let me know...

Hi there,

What you're looking for is the Game Content Usage Rules for Namco's properties. GCURs are just about the same for every company in the gaming industry: You can use content from their games, be that screenshots, videos, guides etc. and post them on your own website or a sharing site such as YouTube or Facebook without any problems. However, the main point here is you absolutly do not under any circumstances gain money from these or intent to use them for commercial use.

If you just want to make a quick video of you and your friends having fun in a game that Namco made, or in your case an instructional video for the game, you can go right ahead and rest assured you won't get any trouble for doing so. In fact, many game companies encourage people to make and upload videos of their games on the internet. Your video won't be taken down for it so you don't have to worry about all those hours you've spent editing to go to waste.

Hope this helps
