No one seems to want to seperate the Super Hornet from the First Model from the 80's. The super Hornet is almost a brand new aircraft, larger, and more advanced that the original. You could have a Hornet vs Super Hornet forum next...

... I figure hornets score a BIG point for being the aircraft of choice for the best darn flight demonstration team in the world...

...However the Tomcat bites back having captured the young minds and imaginations of my entire generation with the help of that da%m Kenny Loggins song...

Although the Hornet has never been associated with a sweaty topless all male vollyball scene...

HORNET WINS!!!

There is one thing a Hornet can do that a Tomcat can't, Pucachev's Cobra. The Hornet was the only US millitary aircraft that could do it until the F-22 entered service.

Only the Super Hornet can. And at that only the F/A-18F has attempted. Also the F/A-18F was the aircraft that got a "kill" on an F-22 at Red Flag. Seems like the Navy would get more out of the F/A-18F.

the navy* could get alot from a F-14D but they refuse to.

Seems the navy has this cycle of Heavy twin engines and then cycling back to lighter single engines. Hellcat, Bearcat...Tiger Cat...A-4, Coursair II, Tomcat.
Hornet (although not single engine) Then the JSF, so we should be due for another big twin sometime soon.

If I remember correctly, the most those two aircraft could do was a tail slide.
