Dragon Ball Online to America by Ouya???

Post by 798supremegreen » Thu Jul 12, 2012 7:01 pm

There's this new console coming out called "Ouya".It's supposed to be a system not men't to compete with consoles, but to bring back console gaming. It doesn't have as good as processing system as console, but it can run games like Minecraft,Madden 12,and I guess every game Mojang has made(so it's been said). They wanted to raise at least 950 thousand dollars, but on the first day ended up earning 2 million.Today they have 4 million, and are going on 5.
My point is if Dragon Ball Online could be ported onto this system? That would be a good thing, right?Well if you think so heres the link to put your top 5 games you wish to put on "Ouya".https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ouyatop20. DBO didn't make the mentions,so scroll down to the Type in option.Of course I'm asking you to put DBO as at least one of your games. If you want to check out their official(kid of but it's not their web page) place go to here http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...o-game-console I hope to get DBO on this console, and many other games,so please vote,if we fail,at least we tried!

P.S. "Ouya" is only going to cost $99.

Actually the Ouya is an open source android-based console -- it's just meant to play mobile games on the big screen. It's games are also exclusivly free-to-play too.

Actual feasibility notwithstanding, the Ouya project is obviously dreaming of more than just "mobile games."

Also, upon closer inspection of the Kickstarter page, you'll notice it clearly states:
We're handing the reins over to the developer with only one condition: at least some gameplay has to be free.
Dragon Ball Online uses a free-to-play model with a cash shop, so it does meet that requirement.

Based on its system requirements, I would say Dragon Ball Online might be able to run on the Ouya hardware. The primary hurdle to clear in bringing it over would be modifying it to work on the Android operating system. MMO games also require extensive and reliable server support; new servers would likely need to be established and maintained in regions outside of Asia for the game to perform with acceptable latency on the other side of the ocean.

Given that the Ouya platform will probably have a rather small install base in comparison to existing consoles, my guess is it would not be worth the money or effort on Namco Bandai's part to port it. Regardless of its merit, an up-and-coming console is not going to immediately gain the same user base as long-established systems.

If we ever see Dragon Ball Online outside of Asia, my money is on PC.

Point right on the money. And Not to mention that being on PC is the perfect home for an MMO as well.

I'm not even sure how Ouya is going to turn out. Hardware making is a tricky process, and it won't be a smooth ride getting their idea up and working. But at least they aren't in short suppy of any cash. If they play their cards right, I can see this being on the same level that OnLive is now.

Right now though, the big publishers seem to be weary about it. They're keeping an eye on it, but the big problem with be convincing them to bring their games onto the console, something which I have no idea how Ouya will go about doing, and even more so with the premise of a free model. I suppose a demo for each game would count for the free part, but as it stands I don't see many publishers taking a risk on it. They might release one or two experiment titles to test the waters, but I'm seeing this primary as grounds for indie devs and the mobile guys.

Well, that wouldn't be a very smart business decision if they did... it would destroy Ouya's profit and put them on a servery dangerous course for the future. Ouya can't afford to pay a publisher a monthly sum to have their product on their service - no one can. It would be financial suicide.

Apparently I'm not the only one with doubts about the system either...
