Forum Announcement - Trouble Signing In?

Post by Pash Master » Sat Aug 13, 2011 2:19 pm

Since the new forums have come online, you may have experienced trouble logging into your account if you created one on the older forum. While not everyone have been effected by this, you may have recieved error messages when trying to log in, ranging from your password being incorrect / invalid, your account not being activated, or your account not being registered on the forums. These forms of errors would change depending on other factors, but would for the majority prevent users from signing in.

Since the early days of the forum change we have been investigating these errors after the issue was brought to us by another user on the forum who was unable to log-in. We alerted the web team soon after, which in turn have been working on finding and resolving the problem since. It was only recently that we were able to find the origin of these causes.

The troubles occured from an unforeseen error in which the new forum was not properly reading the transfered database of the old, which led to the problems users were facing during sign-ins.

We apologise for the delay in fixing the issue and any inconviences caused by this. The process in fixing your account is relatively simple, you must resend an activation email and reactive your account of which can be done from the log-in page.

We are also aware that several of you who could not sign in have created new profiles in order to continue posting during these times. While you can carry on using your second account, if you would like to switch back to your old profile, but have your posts made in your new account transfered to your first account, please send me a Private Message on the forum. Please read further information below on what is required for me to transfer over your posts.

I have created a FAQ below to try and answer your questions and a step-by-step instructions on how to fix your account. If you have any other questions that you'd like to ask, please leave a comment below.

Who is effected by this problem?
Only users who created their accounts on the old forum will encounter this problem. All profiles created after the switch and on this forum will not have any log-in problems.

How do I fix my account and sign in again?
To fix your account and sucessfuly log-in again, you must reactivate it. To reactivate your account, go to the log-in screen and press 'Resend activation e-mail'. Enter your email associated with your account and click the Sumbit button. Then follow the instructions in the email to reactivate your account. If you do not recieve an email, don't forget to check your Junk Folder and Spam Filters.

I clicked the Resend activation e-mail, but didn't get an email. Why not?
Please check you have spelled your email properly, and that the email you have entered is the one used to create your account. Also check your Junk Box and Spam settings, as there is a high chance your email client will have moved the email automatically into your Junk Box or in accordance with your Spam Filter settings.

I am an old forum member, but can still log-in. Should I be worried this might happen to me as well?
In all likelihood, this has already happened to your account but the reason you are still able to post is because you are using a stored URL link to get here (from either your favourites in your Web Brower or from your History), and the cookies you use to sign in with when the site first changed before the error happened hasn't expired yet, letting you skip the logging in and remain signed-in, allowing you to continue posting. If you are unsure, you can check this by opening a Private View in your web brower and attempting to sign in. If you get an error message, you have the problem too. However it isn't as much of a deal since you are skipping the log-in process altogether with your cookies, and staying signed in. But it would be best to reactivate your account now before your cookies expire or are deleted.

I made a new account when I couldn't sign in, and now that I have my first account back again I'd like to transfer my posts from my second account over to my original. Can this be done?
Yes. If you made a second account during the log-in problems and would like to go back to using your old profile, but transfer any posts you made with your second one so people know it is you who posted them and they appear in your Post History, please send me a Private Message. Please include in your message your first Account's username, and your second Account's username. Note that to confirm your identity, you must have signed in to both accounts with the same computer. Before transferring any post content, we will first confirm this to avoid any misuse of this system. If you have not signed into both accounts on the same computer, you will not be able to transfer your posts.

If I transfer all my posts to my first account, what will happen to my second account?
Your second account will remain intact and will not be deleted / banned after the transfer process. You will still be able to use your second account and post with it. The only thing different is it will have zero posts made in it after the transfer. Any new posts made with the account will not be transfered over.

I made a new account during the log-in problems, but I'd like to keep using this one instead. Is that possible?
Yes. You can continue to use your second account if you wish to do so.

I wish to continue using my second account instead of going back to my first. Can I transfer all the posts of my first account over to my second account?
No. All posts transfers are done manually, one post at a time. Your first account will have a much higher post count than your second, and would take days, even weeks, for me to move all of them over. Until we make a proper transfer tool to select more than one post at a time and accelorate the process, this will not be doable.

I transfered all my posts of my second account over to my first, but I made a mistake / want to use my second account instead. Can you transfer them back?
No. All posts transfers are final, and will not be reverted.
